Meet The Hellboyz, two masked wrestlers making names for themselves across the border from Yuma, Arizona in San Luis Rio Colorado, which has always been a hot bed for pro wrestling.
The Hellboyz were trained by San Luis icon, Mr. Majestyk, a longstanding veteran of the ring wars himself who is now in hsi 50s, yet incredibly still active.

Death Of Freddie Gomez
Freddie Gomez, real name Eliseo Lerma, passed away this June at the age of 79, in Wisconsin, where he had moved to work in the concrete business.
In the 1970s, Gomez was known as a referee and later a wrestler, following a heel turn in which as a ref he shafted Kurt Von Steiger in a title match with Chris Colt. When announcer Pat Malone interfered, this led to a tag team match with Gomez and Colt vs. Malone and Von Steiger. What few people knew was Gomez had actually wrestled before this.
Gomez continued to wrestle in Arizona until the late 1980s before moving to Texas and then to Wisconsin to work in the concrete trade, as noted.
In the 1970s, Freddie has notable feuds with Cowboy Bob Yuma, Nano Ortega, Jeff Hodge and Benny Mendeblis. For a brief time, he held the Arizona Jr. Heavyweight title.
Though usually a singles wrestler, he also teamed with the late Chuck Karbo on occasion.
Gomez wa known for heavy reliance on foreign objects in his matches. Just like fans knew The Sheik would eventually pull his pencil out of his boot, the Arizona crew knew Gomez would use something illegal in his matches and it was a question of what rather than when.

The History Of Bullfighting & Lucha Libre In Juarez
Coming in the winter form out of Arizona will be the new book, The Pictorial History Of Bullfighting & Lucha Libre In Juarez, by an Arizona publishing house. Details soon.
Note that many wrestlers from the Phoenix area also appeared in El Paso or Juarez over the decades. These include Don Arnold, Tito Montez, Gory Guerrero and Phil Melby. Varied Juarez-based wrestler such as Pancho Pico, Tom Ramirez, Flama Roja, Mustang and Bronco Lazar were regulars in Phoenix in the 1970s. Photos of all of these people will be included. Eddie Guerrero appeared in Phoenix for the first time in 1991, long before becoming an international star, as he teamed with CC Starr to take on Sergeant Schultz 1 and 2.
Bullfighters featured will include Fernando Dos Santos, Luis Procuna, Calesero, Andres Blando, Silverio Perez, Eduardo Liceaga, Armillita, David Silveti, Raul Ponce De Leon, Manolete, Carlos Arruza, Eloy Cavazos, Mariano Ramos, Manolo Martinez, Rogelio Leduc, David Renk, Jesus Solorzano, Juan Silveti, Arturo Magana, Pepe Luis Vazquez, Antonio Velazquez, Curro Rivera, Adan Lozada, Cagancho and many more, those these names may be meaningless to the wrestling fans.
Other wrestlers profiled include the Funks, Hans Schnabel, El Santo, Blue Demon, Rudy Navarro, Cassandro El Erotico, Commando Nazi, Toro Bravo, Jay Dillon, Primo Carnera, Konnan, Goliath, Time Traveler, Fabi Apache, Rey Misterio Jr. and many others.

Fargo Book Coming
A book on Don Fargo is coming via Crowbar press later this year. The 80-plus year old Fargo will give firsthand accounts of his long and often uncanny career.
The book will include some material on his various Phoenix stays.
The book will also deal with the shooting death of wrestler Joe Costello, who likewise did some Phoenix matches in the past. Fargo was always a death magnet, so to speak, with people around him getting killed or hurt outside the ring. There was the Costello shooting, which happened in a Tennessee bar. A fight broke out, with Joe getting the worst of it and Fargo missing disaster as usual . (Costello has been covered on these blogs before if you do a search, but his death, unlike the killing of Bravo or Nancy Benoit, has slipped through the cracks of history. Fans seldom mention it or him). Then there is the shooting of jack Dillinger, again in a bar, which caused him to lose a leg, while Fargo again made it to safety. Both incidents are to be covered at length.
